Jessica Petrasek lives in Atlanta, where she is the flute teacher at Georgia State University.

She is Assistant Principal Flute of the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder and Piccolo of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Georgia. Jessica has been Principal Flute of the Knoxville and Wichita Symphony Orchestras, Piccolo of the Kansas City Symphony, Assistant Principal Flute of the Central City Opera Orchestra, and Piccolo and 2nd Flute of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra. She sometimes performs with the Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Detroit Symphony Orchestras.

Jessica has Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University, where she majored in Classics with a focus on Latin and Ancient Greek language and literature. Basically, she did stuff like translating the Odyssey and the Aeneid. She also earned a Certificate in Music Performance, studying under flutist Jayn Rosenfeld. She was awarded the honor of University Scholar, and earned the the Isidore and Helen Sacks Memorial Prize in Music.

Jessica also holds a Master of Music from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where she studied with Leone Buyse and was awarded both the Jerry and Nanette Finger Foundation Prize and the Isidore and Helen Sacks Memorial Prize. 

Jessica received additional training at the Tanglewood Music Center, Yellow Barn Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Aspen Music Festival, and the National Repertory Orchestra.

Ages ago, Jessica was a Presidential Scholar in the Arts, Third Prize and “Best Performance of a Newly Commissioned Work” winner and in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, Miyazawa Flutes Emerging Artist, and National Foundation of the Advancement of the Arts YoungARTS Silver Award Winner. She was featured on NPR’s “From the Top” as a kid.

Jessica plays a lot of music with her husband, Joe Petrasek, who is Principal Percussion of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. As the Petrasek Duo, they give recitals and masterclasses all over the country. They have a young daughter, Sophia, who shares her parents' love of music, food, and animals.

Jessica's biggest passion outside of music is horses. You can find her at the barn with my horse Rav whenever she has the time.
