Daniel Kopp, cello
Cellist Daniel Kopp is an active chamber musician, educator, and arts leader in Austin, Texas. As the co-founder and artistic director of Austin Camerata, he curates concerts that reimagine chamber music through creative collaborations with dance, visual arts, and storytelling. Austin Camerata has been praised by the Austin American-Statesman for its “unadulterated beauty” and nominated by the Austin Critics Table for ‘best classical ensemble’.
An active chamber musician, he has performed at distinguished festivals, including Tanglewood, Kneisel Hall, and Aspen, and locally with Austin Camerata, Beerthoven, and Conspirare. In 2023, Daniel recorded on Conspirare’s acclaimed album "House of Belonging," earning a Grammy nomination for Best Choral Performance. As an orchestral player, Daniel has performed as principal cellist of the New York String Orchestra Seminar at Carnegie Hall, principal cellist of the Tanglewood Music Center, and principal cellist of the Colorado College Summer Music Festival.
Daniel maintains a full private teaching studio in Austin, Texas, and has been on faculty for the Manitou Chamber Music Festival, Stringwood Music Camp, and Austin Chamber Music Center. In 2024, Daniel co-founded the summer chamber music program Opus 360, where advanced high school students study chamber music and learn about music entrepreneurship during a one-week intensive in Houston, Texas.
Daniel graduated from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas. His teachers include Bion Tsang, Norman Fischer, Cathie Lehr-Ramos, and Mary Lou Gotman. He has had the honor of studying chamber music with members of the Juilliard, Cleveland, and Miro Quartets.
